Male U.S. citizens, wherever they live, and male noncitizens living in the United States, who have reached their 18th birthday but not reached their 26th, are required to be registered with Selective Service. In order to be eligible for Federal Loans, Grants and other benefits you must do one of the following: Register online at www.sss.gov , Fill out a Selective Service registration form at any U.S. post office or Complete the registration reminder postcard that you may receive in the mail shortly before your 18th birthday.

Holy Cross Academy in Oneida will offer a New York State 5 hour pre-licensing class to the community on the last Saturday of each month. The next class will be held September 30th at 8:30am. Cost for the class is $35 if pre-registered, and $40 at the door. A valid Driver’s Permit is required. The school is located at 4020 Barrington Road in Oneida Castle. Any student 18 years old and older that enjoy the mechanical side of agriculture should stop by the Guidance Office for an apprenticeship opportunity from the sprinkler fitters association.

Any student that is interested in Plumbing, Welding, Steam Fitting, Pipe Fitting, HVAC and Sprinkler Fitting can visit www.training669.org for more information. Local 669 is the largest local in the UA, primarily because they have jurisdiction in 48 states and have 4 primary districts in NY State, to include Newburgh, Albany, Syracuse and Buffalo. They interview four times per year with the next interviews occuring in the late June or early July time frame. Apprentices earn while the learn. They are working on the job for a contractor and will start in CNY at $15.00. Every six months, an apprentice will get a pay increase of $2.00 per hour as long as they are keeping up with the demand.  At the 3 month mark, apprentices are enrolled in their Health and Welfare Benefit package, which is the Very best coverage in the country. At the 10 month mark, apprentices will be enrolled in their TWO Pension programs. Upon graduation, a Journey Worker will be paid around $37.00 before overtime.
