Welcome to
English 9…a year of transition! In class this year we will be reading great
works of literature (Romeo and Juliet,
The Crucible,The Odyssey ) and selected poems and short stories

Materials
needed for class: pens, paper, and a folder (index cards are always good for
studying vocabulary and terms)

Grading:
Tests 40%, Essays, 30%, Quizzes 20%, homework and participation 10%

Rule
#1 – COME TO CLASS PREPARED…it just makes sense to come to English class with
your book, pens and paper.

Rule
#2 – DO YOUR HOMEWORK – If you don’t do your homework, you will not do well in
English 9. End of story.

Rule
#3 – MAKE UP MISSED ASSIGNMENTS – We all have to miss a day of school once in a
while. If you are out, and a major assignment is due the day you are out, you
need to send it in with a friend or relative. If you miss a quiz or unit exam,
you will have one week to make it up. If there are extenuating circumstances,
please be sure to let me know so other arrangements can be made

Rule
#4 – DO NOT STRETCH ESSAYS BY WIDENING THE MARGINS AND ENLARGING THE FONTS.
When typing essays, please use size 12 font. Essays should be double spaced. Use only blue or
black ink on all assignments that are not typed.

Rule
#5 – SEEK HELP IF YOU NEED IT! If you are having trouble understanding a novel,
or writing a paper, please come and see me! My free periods are
7th and 10th(most days). Don’t wait until it is too
late! Set goals now so that you are not stressed in June!
