Legacy Now ParticipantsTwenty-five students took part in the 2018 Legacy Now workshop at Canastota High School on Nov. 22. The school’s FBLA chapter hosted the workshop, and members of FBLA were facilitators for the event, which has been part of school programming for 13 years.

The event, which is open to all class and student government officers, gives a chance to participate in character building activities in an effort to improve their outlook on their education and on life in general. Attendees are shown that emphasizing teamwork, character, and leadership creates a positive educational environment.

Gary Ford, the Legacy Now presenter, worked with the Character Education Committee and FBLA advisor, Elizabeth Garofalo, to establish the goals for this year’s program. Together, they spent the day promoting leadership and stressing the importance of a positive environment within the school district. High School Principal Jay Altobello and teachers, Kristie Boisen, Lisa Visalli and Kelley Brenon were also on hand to share their goals with the students.

Canastota Cares represents the goals of the Character Education Committee at CHS stressing the principles of character, action, respect, empathy and service. High school teachers Kelley Brenon, Lisa Visalli and Elizabeth Garofalo make up the committee.
